NEWCASTLE
Newcastle is an unincorporated small town nestled in the Sierra foothills, 31 miles northeast of Sacramento. It is often referred to as a small town with charm and family friendly. It was founded in the 1800s where the regular freight and passenger trains began operating on the Central Pacific’s line to Newcastle in 1864.
Newcastle was also referred to as the cradle of the “gold country” where many miners and gold prospectors searched for their fortune in gold. However, Newcastle was especially known for their orchards and abundance of fruit. The drying sheds still remain as a remembrance of that time.
